Filing A Car Insurance Claim

If you have been involved in a car accident you will need to file a car insurance claim. Even if the accident wasn’t your fault you still have to notify your insurance company immediately and go through the process of filing an insurance claim. When calling your insurance company to file it is very important to gather the police report and the information on others involved in the accident and call your insurance company as soon as possible, especially if there were any injuries.  If you are unable to drive your car you will want to make sure your insurance company will cover a rental while your car is in the shop.

The best advice immediately after the accident is to pull your car off to the side of the road as possible to make sure all vehicles are out of the way of oncoming traffic as much as possible, and then check to see if anyone is injured.  The next step would be to make sure the police are called immediately and ambulance if injuries are involved.  While you are waiting for the police and ambulance to arrive be sure to get together your drivers license, proof of insurance, and car registration so things will move along smoothly when the police do arrive.

After the accident, it’s a great idea to review exactly what your insurance policy covers. Contact your insurance company to let them know what happened and initiate the claim process.

Working through car insurance claims isn’t as hard as most people think.  Once you have notified your insurance company and started makin a car insurance claim, you will want to get estimates for the repairs needed to fix your car after the accident.  A car insurance claim form will be provided by your insurance company for you to complete so they can get as much info as possible about the accident, such as who was found to be at fault, the people involved in the accident, any witnesses to the accident, any tickets issued, and damages to the cars involved.

After all these questions have been answered the insurance company will then want you to go out and get estimates for the repair of damages to your vehicle. They will then arrange to have the car repaired and how payment will be made with the repair shop.

After a car accident remember to keep a cool head, call the police and get a copy of the police report. Then, take action and call your insurance company to file a car insurance claim.
